When my baby moved out and the blues moved in There wasn’t nothin’ I could do But mosey around with my head in my hands Lord what am I comin’ to I just keep moanin’ moa-oanin’ the blues I wrote a nice, long letter Sayin’ mama please come home Your da-ddy is lone-some and all I do is moan I’ve been lovin’ that gal for so doggone long I can’t afford to lose her now I thought I was right but I must have been wrong ‘Cause my head is startin’ to bow And now I’m moanin’ moa-oanin’ the blues If you want a good gal to stay around You gotta treat her nice and kind If you do her wrong she’ll leave this town And you’ll almost lose your mind Then you’ll be moanin’ moa-oanin’ the blues Oh baby, baby, baby Honey baby, please come home Your da-ddy is lone-some and all I do is moan I promise you baby that I’ll be good And I’ll never be bad no more I’m sittin’ here waitin’ for you right now To walk through that front door Then I’ll stop moanin’ moa-oanin’ the blues Then I’ll stop moanin’ moanin moa-oanin’ the blues

There was an old boy in my hometown Everybody thaught he was dumb They called him Silly Hillbilly Willy Just to be making fun He was always pickin’ on an old guitar And singin’ him silly songs He said I’ll get a job in a hillbilly band If I could and if I come along They called him Silly Hillbilly Willy But he’s not as dumb as you think You ought to see a smile on Hillbilly Willy When he takes his money to the bank Oh well he finally got a job in a Hillbilly Band But I just can’t make it’s name But there he is just as big a life His picture in the hall of fame He travelled all over the entire world Getting bigger all the time to see He’s got curly lore and a chain of sore And he want’s to buy a baseball team Oh well he comes back to town Once in a while and he really travels in style With his gold Cadillac, fine cloths on his back And he’s spending his money like wild

You come home late and you come home early You come on big when you’re feeling small You come home straight and you come home curly Sometimes you don’t come home at all So what in the world’s come over you And what in heaven’s name have you done You’ve broken the speed of the sound of loneliness You’re out there running just to be on the run Well I got a heart that burns with a fever And I got a worried and a jealous mind How can a love that’ll last forever Get left so far behind It’s a mighty mean and a dreadful sorrow It’s crossed the evil line today Well, how can you ask about tomorrow We ain’t got one word to say

Tonight my head is bowed in sorrow I can’t keep the tears from my eyes My son calls another man daddy The right to his love I’ve been denied My son calls another man daddy He’ll ne’er know my name or my face God only knows how it hurts me For another to be in my place Each night I laid there in prison I pictured a future so bright And he was the ray of my sunshine That shone thru the darkness of night Each day his mother shares a new love She just couldn’t stand my disgrace My son calls another man daddy And longs for a love he can’t replace My son calls another man daddy He’ll ne’er know my name or my face God only knows how it hurts me For another to be in my place

I had a friend named Ramblin’ Bob Who used to steal, gamble and rob He thought he was the smartest guy in town But I found out last Monday That Bob got locked up Sunday They’ve got him in the jailhouse way down town He’s in the jailhouse now In the jailhouse now I told him once or twice Stop playing cards and shootin’ dice He’s in the jailhouse now He played a game called poker He knuckled with Dan Yoakum But shootin’ dice was his greatest game Now he’s downtown in jail Nobody to go his bail The judge done said that he refused a fine Well I went out last Tuesday Met a gal named Susie I said I was the swellest man around We started to spend my money She started to call me honey We took in every honky-tonk in town We’re in the jailhouse now We’re in the jailhouse now I told the judge right to his face We didn’t like to see this place We’re in the jailhouse now

She said if I ever deceived her She’d be gone before I could count ten I guess that I didn’t believe her ’Cause look at the trouble I’m in She’s gone gone gone gone gone gone Crying won’t bring her back The more that I cry the faster that train flies Farther on down the track I’ve lost every right to be happy When I lost the heaven I found She warned me she’d leave and she left me Before my first tear hit the ground If I only knew where to find her I’d crawl there on my hands and knees Each tick of the clock’s a reminder She’s one second farther from me
